It was in the city of Le Havre, France, in 1872 that Claude Monet painted 'Impression, Sunrise,' which gave its name to the Impressionist movement. This famous painting was stolen from the Musée Marmottan in Paris on October 27, 1985. Thieves broke into the museum and pointed guns at the public. Fortunately, the painting was recovered in Corsica five years later. It seems that the thieves were negotiating with the Japanese Yakuza. We all know how Monet was fascinated by Japan and how the Japanese are fascinated by Monet. However, all of this doesn't have much to do with Art San Gallery, except for the fact that Clotilde Aksin-Frappier was born in the port city of Le Havre, and this is not unrelated to her artistic pursuit of light using oil pastels."
