Island Echoes and Poetry in Cyberspace: Sharing the Beauty of Blaise Cendrars' 'Islands'

Updated: Jan 28

As recounted in the inaugural post of this blog, the launch of an online gallery feels akin to embarking on a digital odyssey—a submarine's plunge into uncharted depths. Since August, we've tuned our sails to the rhythm of this virtual sea. Visitors playfully peer through the portholes, navigating the site with clicks that resonate like Morse code. Statistics sometimes unveil their origins—from the captivating islands of Japan to the emerald landscapes of Ireland and the misty moors of Scotland and England. Even the Anglo-Norman isles, like Jersey and Guernsey, join the voyage, alongside Rhode Island in the United States. Each island name weaves dreams, reminding us of the simplicity and beauty of Blaise Cendrars' poem "Islands," which today we want to share with you :

Islands

Islands where one will never set foot

Islands where one will never descend

Islands covered in vegetation

Islands crouched like jaguars

Silent islands

Immobile islands

Unforgettable and nameless islands

I throw my shoes overboard because I would like

to go as far as you.
